Oh Oh, Bird Down! Take Action
WHO'S IN THERE?
Usually I hear the resounding 'bang'....this time I didn't.
It was cold, real cold, like 10 degrees, when I found the bird sitting up-right, eyes closed, and a lot of blood flowing from the beak. The glob of blood had congealed, so I knew it had been there for 30 minutes or so.
What do you do?
Open a paper bag - away from the bird (so they are not frightened by the noise), or have someone else open a paper grocery bag. Put several sheets of paper towel on the bottom (not towels, the talons/toes become entangled in the threads), put bird in, fold the top, or just bring the sides together. I use a bull-dog paper clip to hold it closed. Place bag with bird in a dark, safe place. I use the powder room for cool recovery, and the pantry for warm recovery. We have a freezer in the pantry and it keeps that small space warm. We also have in-floor heating, so the bottom of the bag is on a warm surface.
This bird needed warm and dark. I left him there for 3 hours. No food, water.....just quiet, dark, undisturbed. When I had picked up the bird, I heard the gurgling-wheezing of fluid/blood in the respiratory tract, the crop, and that is usually a bad sign. That sound plus the loss of blood, all suggested that the chances of the bird living were lessened, and that a fair amount of head damage had occurred. Sometimes this species (Yellow-Bellied Sap Sucker, or other wood-peckers) swallow their tongues or bite their tongues on impact......also not good recovery chances, because they use their tongues to eat.
When it was time to check on him, I fully expected to find that he had died and then I would offer him to the wild critters of the forest. BUT, he was strong and well. Assisted this bird for 3 days, did a practice flight in secure room, then released. Very rewarding to have this success.
CLEANSE WHERE, WHAT?
You want me to WHAT? That's what I was thinking the first time I heard 'CLEANSE'. It sounded scary, complicated and over-my-head, or should I say over my colon. I had no bench-mark except Ex-Lax as a college student, which meant you stayed close to a toilet, and for sure you NEVER talked about IT!
It never occurred to me that my headaches were related to my digestive tract, that the pain in my tissues and joints was connected to my liver, or that the quality of my skin was impacted by kidney function....what did I know about cleaning my liver, or kidney's, or digestive tract or anypart of my INSIDES! Yikes, insides need to be cleaned, too. It was time for my thinking to move out of the box, and that box was my brain held prisoner by fear.
I remember where I was, the year and what I was doing when I first "heard" about cleansing. The beauty for me, is that I got to hear it morning, noon and night for 3 days, because I was at my first Science and Application Training Session, date was 2002, in Chicago, IL. I was beginning a crucial phase in my wellness journey. and GOD was afoot.
Since then, I have cleansed many times, many ways for many reasons.

THE 'FEEL BETTER' LAUNDRY ROOM
These are some of the ways our family creates Digestive & Gut health
Believe it or not, the laundry room and 'under-the-sink' places, have a lot to do with our family's health.
This is ALL we use to clean, do laundry and make our home smell good!
These tell some of the story of how we combat health issues in our home
for the people (all ages) and
all of the pets
Then, we use some of these to add to our drinking water to boost our
immune systems, use some of them to shampoo, to shave, to create 'Litter-roma' (which also combats pet-health issues PLUS make the room smell good), use some to create a cleansing soaks to detox.....this is especially effective when seeking healthy skin and digestive system, too!
Health issues have a 'starting point' that might surprise you. You can begin by looking
under your sink and in your laundry room.

Colorful time on the farm
Pelicans on the Lake - white mass in the distance. They stay 'till late October |
The driveway with a path to the lake and the N woods - In early fall shadows |
Past the pond - home to cranes, kingfishers, reptilians, herons, muskrats, otter, many more. |
Each season brings a new understanding of the land, and new views. This is where I get to spend my 'life-time' of play, work, joy, inspirational moments, and share with family-friends. These are some of my daily FALL views when I walk up to the farm in September early October. I am grateful my business allows me to be here, every day, all day if I choose.

The Fluoride Debate Heats Up and Gets Media Attention
The Fluoride Debate Heats Up and Gets Media Attention
One of the central issues though is FREEDOM. Fluoride is not a nutrient. The fluoride put into drinking water is not a prescription drug, but an industrial waste product. However, it is put into the water as a "drug" to help oral health, and it is done without the consent of those receiving it. Even if you accepted the premise that it works systemically, there is no justification to force it on people under the premise of slightly lowering tooth decay as everyone has the option of using it topically as a toothpaste if they so choose.
How can anything unrecgonizable by the body, dangerous for the nervous system, and builds up in lipid fats possibly be good for teeth? Teeth or our dental health, is related to nutrition, minerals, vitamins, digestive-gut health, and an intact natural immune system.

Turtle Harmony
THE JOURNEY
Look who I met on our driveway. This little one is last year's hatchling, heading from the lake to the Pond....probably inspired to begin winter prep. The pond is the winter-hidey-hole for many creatures. I love the way the animal & plant kingdoms show me how to live in the moment and to appreciate that which is here, now. So, it was my honor to assist the journey.....I carried this young one the final 100 yards to the Pond. Next Spring, I may meet his/her Mom or Auntie, or Sister when they come up out of the pond to dig a hole and lay their 12-15 eggs in the FAVE SPOTS for the turtles. Early Fall on the farm is colorful, gentle, fun, and precious. How are you celebrating the seasonal changes?
